This watercolour box is veneered with Canadian ripple maple and decorated with dyed veneers. The inlaid multi-coloured wavy lines inside and outside this box have made it probably the most photographed and featured box I’ve ever made. 14” x 10” x 3 1/2”, french polished.
It was designed as an exhibition piece and in the tradition of C18th and C19th watercolour boxes it contains all an artist could require making it a fully usable artist's box.
The coloured wavy lines also decorate the inside of the lid
It has two hand made blue glass water pots
The waterpots fit into spaces at each side of the back of the box - the wavy coloured lines even make it into the space underneath the pots.
The spring-loaded drawer is opened by lifting a small turned boxwood finial at the back of the interior.
