This domed top case was designed for a collection of antique banknotes. It is veneered with burr oak - in my opinion a very underrated veneer with a wonderful rich, warm slightly yellow colour. he exterior is French polished.
It has a single drawer on one side for storing particularly large banknotes. This is spring loaded and is opened by lifting a small turned ebony finial on one side of the interior.
This shows the case open - unusually opening along its length to reveal an interior veneered with figured maple. The banknotes are stored inside this space card index style allowing easy viewing and selection. The finial for opening the drawer can be seen along the left hand edge.
The exterior is decorated with a traditional black and white line and all edges prtected with boxwood squares.
The centre of the lid features an oval panel in figured maple showing elements from the owner’s coat of arms set into the surrounding book matched burr oak..
