For a flute with this many bits the case either needs to be very long or there needs to be more than one layer. The original case for this early C18th flute has a loose tray to hold some of the extra centre joints needed to allow the flute to play at the many pitches that were common at the time. I decided that it would be a neater solution to fit four of the centres and the specially made cleaning rod into the lid thus making all pieces visible and accessible on opening the case.
