It is also unusual for cases for historic
flutes to have survived ~ many cases for C18th instruments were
made of fabric or card and elaborate cases such as this were reserved
for the highest quality instruments. The original trapezoid case
for this flute is wooden and covered with extravagantly tooled leather.
My copy here, made from reclaimed mahogany for one of Rod Camerons
first copies, has a simplified version of the original tooled design
inlaid into the lid.
