This box was designed for a friend of mine to hold a pair of Chinese Exercise Balls made by the Boading Iron Ball Company in China - '... much prized for their ability to enhance the users health and sense of well-being... ' They are tremendously therapeutic and are meant to improve your manual skills - and they make wonderful, restful, bell-like sounds when you move them. The box that came with them had seen better days...

It is made in the form of an octagonal tube from maple and the exterior is decoreated with dyed veneers. The interior is lined and decorated with a gorgeous chinese fabric found by Olly. As it happened the design was in a series of circles containing various motifs and a different one of these fitted neatly into each end.
