This is a gorgeous blue enamelled broach of a blue morpho butterfly belonging to my mother.

In the background is a small double curved jewellery box 10" x 7" x 4" veneered with burr oak and looking dowdy by comparison. The centre of the lid features a mother of pearl oval which is mirrored by the escutcheon. All edges are finished with fine boxwood squares.

The interior is lined with green moiree and has a fine Cuban mahogany lipping around 3 sides. There is no tray.

The lid in hinged using fine brass piano hinge - a method I don't use any more for this format of box, preferring to use quadrant hinges that stop the lid at around 90 degrees.
