I have always loved the lighter figured veneers, partly because they work so well with the coloured decorations I like to use. This jewellery box is veneered with stripy or 'fiddle-back' sycamore and decorated with a blue and yellow line made from dyed veneers.

This shows the line in detail and also the escutcheon which is made from a spectacular piece of abalone, a shell similar to mother-of-pearl but far more colourful.
