A small domed top jewellery box, 7" x 4" x 3" in solid Cuban mahogany. I use very little mahogany now and almost none in solid form - genuine Cuban mahogany is certainly the king of mahoganies and much sought after for its rich colour and dense, even texture. As far as I know it is not available anymore - the wood for this box, and for several other small boxes and trays, came from an old reclaimed table top.

The top, front and back are decorated with traditional black and white lines in the form of luggage straps. The centre of the lid features a contrasting burr oak panel and there is a matching 'fake' escutcheon on the front.

The corners are decorated with ivory mitre keys - oops, this sounds like a bit of a non-environmentally-friendly box! ... these are from reclaimed piano keys so I hope this is not too serious a crime. I certainly don't use ivory any more, preferring to use laminated dyed veneers, solid timbers or occasionally brass as mitre keys.

I have no shots of the interior of this but I think it was unlined. It was fitted with a fine piano hinge and the exterior was sealed and waxed.
