This tea caddy was made as a contemporary version of a traditional tea caddy. I did this box a while ago now and I haven't done anything so uncompromisingly colourful for a long time - it would be fun to do something like this again.

The harlequin design is made up from individual diamonds of dyed veneers. These are first made into multi-coloured strips with a thin sliver of black veneer in between each. Then the trimmed strips are joined, again with the black veneer between, to form complete sheets before veneering onto the shaped box.

The interior format was broadly copied from a Victorian box - there are two individual caddies and a hand made lead crystal blending bowl.
