    It is about 12” x 8” x 7” high and the lid and front are treated as one panel, bookmatched with four consecutive leaves of veneer with the centre of the bookmatch along the top edge of the front. I often do this as it allows for a four-way match and for there to be a greater continuity from lid to front. I also allow the figured maple line that decorates it to run right around the two surfaces - any line along the front top edge would reduce the effect of the book match. The simple escutcheon is in matching figured maple.
