domed top jewellery box veneered with thuya
This domed top jewellery box is veneered with richly figured thuya - unusually coming from the underground root burr of a softwood, the pencil cedar. The wonderful deep red colour is just asking to be french polished - and it was, eventually! There was plenty of hard work first, though - although this comes from what is technically a softwood, it is one of the hardest and most brittle of veneers - requiring extreme care to work it neatly.
