a contemporary version of a traditional tea caddy
This tea caddy was made as a contemporary version of a traditional tea caddy. I did this box a while ago now and I haven't done anything so uncompromisingly colourful for a long time - it would be fun to do something like this again. The harlequin design is made up from individual diamonds of dyed veneers. These are first made into multi-coloured strips with a thin sliver of black veneer in between each. Then the trimmed strips are joined, again with the black veneer between, to form complete sheets before veneering onto the shaped box.
