The problem:
Anyone who has ever inlaid a decorative line around a box lid, or any panel, will know that after removing the bulk of the waste using a table-mounted or a hand-held router you then have the awkward task of squaring off the last few mm of the outside corners by hand.
The solution:
I have designed a jig to complete these corners accurately and fast. Fitted with rare earth magnets to hold a VERITAS corner chisel perfectly vertical, it has fine ribs underneath the base that position it exactly relative to the routed grooves.
One tap with a hammer ...
... and job done!
Undoubtedly the neatest, quickest and most reliable way to complete the external corners left by routed grooves.
Now available:
In February 2010 I approached Veritas to suggest that they produce the jig commercially - and they agreed. Only now they've decided that it must instead be a 'Lee Valley' product, as to be Veritas it must have been designed by them.
It's no less well made for that - it is, after all, made by Veritas, they just won't call it that! This image shows the final version, precision machined in aluminium and anodised for durability and low friction. I now have these in stock and am taking orders.
Ordering info:
The cost is £39.50 [£10 less than from Veritas/Lee Valley] plus £4.50 p&p to anywhere in the world. Click the 'buy now' button below to order yours. With each jig ordered direct from fine-boxes.com you will be eligible for £10 off a day of one-to-one box making tuition or a weekend course.
Delivery will be 2-3 days for UK orders and 5-7 days for everywhere else.
Please note that I am only getting a LIMITED number of these initially - so don’t delay, order today!
